Snow!

It's been snowing and now there are a couple of inches out there. The Überhund is very eager to go out, so in a minute I am taking him out for a walk in it and we'll see how much he likes that. It's very pretty and hardly spoiled by foot tracks or tire marks. Now that it is snowing, I want it to snow more. We may as well have the real thing if we are going to have snow at all. None of this little bit of snow, I want a pack of it.

I don't know which jacket to wear. When the wind isn't blowing, the cold is not that bad, but tomorrow I have to go on my bicycle and that may be different. I'll have to wear my gloves and my scarf and an extra layer of clothes.

The Überhund is having a tremendous pity party, because I'm finishing my cigarette before I take him out. I'd like to finish my coffee too, but it seems it will have to wait. He probably wants to deposit a big damping poop in the fresh snow and make yellow patches.

Well, off we go then...

I was right about that and boy, it is cold outside, because it is a bit windy, but the weather forecast calls for warmer temperatures for tomorrow and rain. It is going to be 3 degrees Celsius. One of my fingers is white from the cold, the circulation has gone out of it. I get that very quickly, always have, even when I was a teenager on my way to school and then unable to hold my pen until the feeling came back.

It turned out that some of the snow had been walked in quite a bit and that it was turning to slush. It will freeze tonight and get slippery. I remember buses sliding across the road sideways went it had frozen the slush during the night. I remember ice skating in the streets when we had frozen sleet. Those were the days.

Well, I can't honestly say that I miss them. My grandmother broke a hip on the slippery sidewalk and suffered a stroke as a result and was never the same again until she died.

So, there you have it.

I am going to put my pajamas on now and get comfortable on the sofa like I did last night. Have something nice to eat also. I'll think of something good.

Have a great night.

Ciao...

Just catching up here! The snow can clear off as far as I'm concerned - I hate the stuff!

Woke up to snow here this morning but it turned to hail and then froze. Not nice.

Have a good evening Irene.

Love the snow! Hope there is plenty more this winter. The kids love it, and they don't get much of it nowadays. They are all playing in the streets round here.

Scamp is most eager for his walks too, and casts hinting glances at his lead and sits his best sit by the door when it is nearly time.

It is very cold, winds from Siberia. The kids need gloves, as they haven't for quite a few years now. Fortunately I have my new sheepskin coat. It is supposed to be for best, but needs must, so I wear it on my dogwalks along with my wellies. I may buy a special spray to preserve it because people keep throwing snowballs at me.

Sorry about your Grandma... which is exactly why I hate the white stuff as it is lethal underfoot.

I used to also get white fingers till I cottoned on that if you wear something warm round your wrists like an extra long jumper or long mittens, it doesn't happen. Try it and see.

I am not going to complain too much because I know round about Febuary the snow gets tiring but I do really miss everything blanketed in white, the silence of snow, the black tree limbs emphasised by the white, sledding, snow dingle berries on the dog, etc. Biking in the snow? Never tried it. You are one tough broad.

Life's biggest mystery are the random pockets of yellow snow...

We're still in our lovely long Fall here, Irene, while the rest of eastern Canada is getting a lot of snow. I'm enjoying this sweater weather, it is very good for me and the dog to go rambling and enjoying the briskness and freshness of the air.

I hope you get lots of beautiful, white, untouched, fluffy snow. It really is beautiful, if the ice and slush stay away. I wouldn't advise riding your bike if the weather is like that. Sounds so slippery. Stay safe.
When Melanie was a baby I slipped on ice and broke my knee caps. Not fun at all.

Hope you sleep well tonight.

Oooh! Poor Cheryl. Broken knee caps.

Like you, irene, I love the snow when it first falls, but it's not fun at all, when rain follows and everything ices over. I am quite timid, these days, when it looks icy, because I'm scared of breaking a brittle bone if I fall over.

The best bit about going out walking, at the moment, is curling up on the sofa, with a cup of tea, when you get back. Curling up on the sofa is good for lots of things, isn't it?
