Murphy's Law

I am a victim of Murphy's Law. Anything that can go wrong has gone wrong and I keep my fingers crossed and hope that my latest hour and a half telephone conversation has finally straightened everything out.

I was trying to change Internet providers in order to save some money, but it was a bad idea, so I warn you never to do this. I thought I had planned everything down to the latest detail, but some other people threw wrenches in my carefully laid plans.

I cancelled my old provider on a day long after my new provider should have started up his service, except that he didn't and left me high and dry without internet or telephone. Promises were made and not kept and I finally said, screw you guys, I'm going back to my old provider, who had now changed ownership and is operating under a new name.

I called them on January the second and arranged everything and waited patiently for my activating code to arrive in the mail, but of course, it did not come. So I made a phone call today and found out that my order did not show up anywhere in their system and had to be placed all over again, which means waiting another week or so.

I am going to try and get my hands on the activating code sooner than that, by making a phone call to the technical service, but I will have to wait a day or two for it to show up in their system.

January the first is a day that will live in infamy. Suddenly I was without Internet and I couldn't do any blogging and I went through withdrawal symptoms. It was not a pretty thing. Since then, I have grown somewhat used to it and manage to fill my time with other things, such as watching more television and bothering the dog a lot. I don't think he minds.

But all of you must have thought I dropped off the face of the earth by my sudden disappearance, although there was some forewarning. I have thought about all of you a lot and I am also thinking about all the wonderful posts I am missing and the comments I miss reading and that I can't write.

I am using my sister's computer now, in between her kids needing it for their school projects, so it isn't always available to me, but I will try to use it while I can until I have my own connection again.

I am well and glad that the holidays are over. Really relieved that they are behind us. I am so ready to pick up my normal life again. The humdrum of everyday living without any excitement. Especially the wear and tear of people not doing their jobs right and leaving me high and dry without my blogging buddies.

I am keeping this short, since I am not at home and I still need to go walk the Uberhund. There is much snow here and it is very cold. It was -20 Celsius last night. That's quite cold. We aren't used to it anymore. It only happens every twelve years or so.

I will try to write some more soon and keep you up to date on the proceedings here, but what I really hope is to be writing from my own computer soon.

Take care, all of you. I am thinking about each and everyone of you and missing you. I hope all is well and that you've all started the new year out on a positive note.

Ciao...

Oh, whew!!! I knew you had given us a forewarning, but that didn't completely dispell my worries... so glad to hear from you again! You were missed on this side of the blogging world too!

Welcome back (sort of). I would go bonkers without internet... which most people will think is quite sad, but they don't realise how attached you can get with people on the other side of planet Earth.

Hope everything is all sorted out for you soon.... thanks for posting!

Yay, Irene is back! Part-time anyway. Glad you're doing OK. Not so glad your provider(s) let you down. Sometimes it's worth making a change to save money but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Pity you don't know in advance which change is worth making, ha ha.
Hope the technical problems are sorted soon.

I just knew it was your new provider, in my bones I knew this but I still worried a little. Next few days should see you up and running.
I know I couldn't survive without the blobbing.
Glad you surfaced my dear!!

I have a strange feeling of deja vu... didn't the same thing happen before when you found a really good deal with a different provider, but it didn't actually work out and you went back to the original one? Or is this some odd fantasy of mine?
Glad you survived the festivities and lived to tell the tale!
hugs

Well, I figured something like that had happened. But waiting so long for a connection?? That is absurd.

Are you writing out the thoughts that must crowding in your mind by hand?

Thank God you've touched base and have let us all know that you're ok.

I would be LIVID if this had happened to me over the Christmas period. Well done Irene, for not losing the plot and wrapping an internet connection around their stupid, pathetic heads. xxx

Great to see you back. At least a week isn't very long and you should be up and running soon enough. You realise how much you rely on the internet when something goes wrong with it. But we need people to help us to sort the problems out and they are not always available when we need them.

Hope things get back to normal as quickly as possible.

so glad that you are ok and it is the internet connection that has gone screwy. You have been missed and it is great you have been able to post to let us know the latest.
Looking forward to you being back in blogging land.

I'm glad that you're OK and have been able to borrow a computer, even if only for a little while.

One of my friends moved to the Netherlands about 18 months ago and had to wait about 3 weeks for her internet connection to be sorted out. Then, when she moved house, a few months ago, she had a similar problem, although she didn't have to wait quite as long. She was really frustrated with it all. I hope that your problem is sorted out very soon!

My sympathies - that must be really really REALLY frustrating. Hope you get it all sorted soon.

Really glad you are OK and that it is the internet that is down, not you!
It pays to leave the service providers alone. I have heard of too many tales like this of people being messed about and being cut off.
Thank goodness you have your sister to keep an eye out for you.

Hope it is all sorted out soon Irene. X

Well that's certainly put me off changing providers! Sorry to hear you've been given such a runaround and hope you're back online, snugly behind your own computer very, very soon.

Take care Irene too, out in that bitter weather.

bravo for managing through! i hate computers really, because i depend on them now and when some part of the chain breaks down, then everything seems to go wrong. i am glad you are there though, bothering the uberhund.

NO INTERNET! oh my god. You poor thing. Hope this gets sorted asap. We had similar problem on changing internet providers too, a year or so ago. Maddening.
Am so glad, like you, that the holidays are over and we are back to normal.
Keep us posted. X

Glad you managed to send us a message - I really sympathise, it's like having your hands cut off when you cannot get on the internet, what did we ever do without it. Hang on in there, we're waiting patiently while you get sorted out. Thank goodness you have Uberhund to play with in the interim :)

They call it Sod's Law round here but I know what you mean:0)

I notice you had a lot of people wondering how you were doing. People do seem to care about you a lot, so there you are.

Hi kid! Hope they get your system set up soon. Glad you're okay. Write your thoughts down as they roll in. I'm still eating breakfast every day, it's getting to be a habit!

Irene, your post made me smile just to know you are okay and that it is still your internet connection, or lack of, that has kept you away.

You are missed and I hope you get all corrected soon so you can be at home with your own computer happily writing again.

Stay warm and allow the Überhund the joy of your extra company as you wait it out just a little longer. Can’t wait to have you back full time.

Great to have you back in blogland, Irene! I've just got back from a magical island right in the middle (almost) of the Atlantic, so I've been out of the blogosphere as well.

Here's wishing you the happiest of Happy New Years with an abundance of fun, love and laughter!
