Don't be a fool!

I bought a white coffee cup for myself with little red roses on it. I thought it was very feminine and I don't have another one like it. It matches the duvet covers that I sleep under every once in a while when I want to treat myself extra special. I want to drink my coffee from a special cup to make it a more worthy occasion and when I want to feel like a lady while I do it.

I got the coffee cup at the discount store where everything is so cheap and this cup was too. I was really there looking for carrier bags for my bike, but they only had 'Hello Kitty' ones. I sure as heck was not going to ride around with them. Besides, they were too small.

I went to four other stores to look for carrier bags, but did not find them, and I will have to go downtown. I do not want to go to the bike shop because they will be too expensive there. I know two department stores that may carry them.

I did buy other things at those four other stores and one of them was chocolate which I had not eaten in a while. I overdosed on a box of it and felt like I had gone to heaven. It was so absolutely delicious. It is a very good thing that I only very rarely eat it because I would gain a ton of weight on it if I had it around me all the time. This was really a treat to have only sometimes to keep it special.

I did find a container with treats for Tyke on sale that should last a while and Tyke was very happy with them when I came home. I cut some up for Gandhi too, but she was not interested in them at all. She is being a finicky eater right now, even though I switched to the pate that she liked so much before. She is having a feline attitude when it comes to food and will get over it.

I think the coffee cup is so cute and dainty that I will wash it out with the new dishwashing brush, that I also got, all the time. It really does make me feel special and who can treat me better than I can myself? I know best what I want, after all. It is too bad that this costs money. For that reason, I would rather receive it as a gift.

Going to the discount store did make me realize that some household items are better bought there and the next time I need detergent and those kinds of things, I will have to go there. It makes quite a difference in price. Well, you do learn something new every day.

When Friday is the weekend too...

I am sitting here with a much needed cup of coffee because I just woke up and it is morning and time to start the day. I do have some time before I have to get real serious because Tyke is still sound asleep on the bed and there will be no sign of life from him for a while yet. Gandhi is sitting on the kitchen counter patiently waiting to be fed. She has to wait a bit longer until I am truly functioning. First I have to take care of my caffeine intake.

I have no obligations today but to go to the pharmacy to pick up some medicines. I have no appointments and I really do not have to go grocery shopping yet, although I may consider doing it anyway. I will have to see how I feel about it later in the day. The temptation is great because then I can pick up some vanilla custard and goat's milk yogurt, but maybe I will be patient and wait until tomorrow. It is not as if we are starving for lack of groceries yet.

I am trying my best to get excited about starting the day, but I am not very successful yet. I think I have to wait for my medicines to start working too because I just took them. I just got another cup of coffee and Gandhi lifted her tail and farted right under my nose. She has a tendency to do unpleasant things like that. I think maybe they are signs of affection, but I may be mistaken. She also does it when she comes to lie down on the bed with me at night. Maybe they are farts of excitement and anticipation.

I think the second cup of coffee is starting to do its job and the medicines must have kicked in too because I feel a lifting of my spirits. Now I am ready to open the blinds and let the early morning daylight in. It will be good to go out in the fresh air and take Tyke for a walk. That is one of the nicest things about the early morning. It would be awful if I had no good reason to go out there so you know I will always have a dog until I am a very frail old lady.

I will get dressed and wake Tyke up and really start the day. There is no better moment than now.

It's okay to be an optimist.

Having recovered from the excitement of life and all its impressions it made on me, I am now more than ready to pick up where I left off and continue with the more ordinary side of it. It does not have to be a cliffhanger all the time after all. I do appreciate it when things get down to a more dull roar.

The way I recovered was by taking a two hour nap this afternoon and this reset my inner wellbeing to its regular cycle and normal every day movement. It is ever so pleasant to exist at this level and pace and in this space in my head. For a while I can act like there is nothing the matter and have very ordinary days and no important appointments at all.

I do wonder if I am even going to like that and if life is not going to get too dull, but I will have to add some excitement if it does. No doubt I will think of something that will add a dash of color to it, as long as it is not some part of my body malfunctioning. Although we could say that it has been well established that most of it is in one heck of a good shape. Most of my fears have not come true. The cataracts were a complete surprise.

I am still on six waiting lists for an apartment up north and I am trying to save money for the moving costs. It has been my intention to put something away in my savings account every month, but that is as far as it has gotten. Every month it turns out that I have more expenses than money. This month it is the glasses, of course, and that is how it will be every month. I am too much of a realist to expect anything different.

Luckily, the waiting lists are long, so I have some time. I purposely got myself off the short ones. These are apartments that I would like to move into very much at very good locations and they are much wanted. I do see some movement in the lists and all I have to be is patient and come up with the money. I am sure that when the time comes, something will work out because I do believe in fate.

I check the lists every day to see if my positions on them have improved yet and sometimes they have. It has become kind of a ritual. I still expect to win a lot of money in the state lottery and I have to go check my numbers as soon as I am done writing this.

Tyke just woke up out of a sound sleep barking at imaginary noises. He had to have his afternoon nap also. I ran out of his favorite food and now he has to eat what he always used to get and he does not like it. The poor animal does have a tough life.

Doing my homework.

Having found out that I have cataracts certainly explained the problems I was having with my vision. Also why my eyes were getting so tired a lot to the point that I could not sit behind the computer anymore or read any kind of text. I had also be getting headaches right above my eyes and now I understand why.

I have done some reading up about them and what the surgery involves that I will eventually have to have done. Now that I know more about cataracts, I understand my problems better, and the surgery sounds pretty straight forward and not too complicated. Whenever the time comes, I will be ready for it.

I did pick out the nicest frame for my glasses that I could find at an affordable price. It was a bit of an unexpected expense, of course, and I had not really planned it into my budget. My health insurance company, which I am very unhappy with, does not cover any of the costs of the glasses, even though it involves a condition like cataracts.

I am changing health insurance companies next year to one that will have better coverage, because the one I have now has too many exclusions. When I signed up for this one, I was not aware of that and I will be more careful the next time. You can only change once a year at the end of it and that is a pain. I do not like the way health insurance companies dictate the kind of care we get. They have way too much power.

It will be a wonderful experience to see well again. I had been suffering for months of not being able to see well and all the other complications that came with it. I had not even realized how much of a bother it was until the very last two months when using my eyes for anything at all became a problem. I think I have to be a bit more alert to when it comes to things not working well with my body. I have a tendency to ignore them for too long.

I think I was supposed to have gotten a pair of free prescription sunglasses also and I have to call about those today. I can certainly use those. I will gladly make another trip downtown to pick those out.

That's something new altogether...

It is a lovely time to sit here and write a blog post because the sun is still shining into the living room and it is pleasantly warm here for the first time of the day. The weather is starting to look up and I think that springtime really is on its way now. The best feeling in the world after a long winter, is to feel the sun shine on your skin, although I like it less so in my face, which it is about to now. I do not want to have to sit here with my sunglasses on.

Tyke thinks he wants more food, but he has had more than enough. He is trying all sorts of ways to weasel it out of me, and I would almost fall for it, but someone called him 'Fatty' today and I think that says about all. When it comes to accepting the amount of food that is eaten, Gandhi is much easier to deal with. Maybe I should also get dried kibbles for Tyke so that he will have something to take care of his enormous appetite between meals. I will get the diet kind.

I saw the ophthalmologist this morning and all the eye tests were done again and good measurements were taken. Then the insides of my eyes were looked at after I had drops put into them and cataracts were found. They are not bad enough yet that I need surgery and for now I just need stronger glasses and will a few more times in the future. When I can not read the text on television with my glasses on anymore, I need to come back and have the surgery done.

The ophthalmologist gave me a prescription for the optometrist and I saw him this afternoon. He still had the frame for the glasses that I had picked out the last time I was there. He had been kind enough to save it for me. I was done there quickly and paid for the new ones that will not be ready until 17 days from now, which means that I will not see so well for all that time with the glasses I have now. My eyes have really gotten worse and it is becoming a frustrating fact.

My sister Marianne had cataracts and hers were so bad that she really needed surgery, but, of course, she never got around to that. My niece, who is in her early forties, has been complaining about her eyes also and I have been telling her to go to the optometrist and have her eyes checked. Like my sister, who was her mother, she is very bad about taking good care of herself. If I lived where she does, I would physically force her to go to doctor's and eye appointments.

I have to walk Tyke before the sun sets.

Ciao.

Daily adventures...

It is tough to wake up out of a sound sleep and wait for the caffeine to do its job. I am drinking my second cup and only imagining that it is making any difference. I tell myself that I should not have stayed up after I let Tyke do his business out back, but it is too late to have any regrets now. My automatic pilot sent me to the kitchen to make coffee and then into the living room to turn on the computer. Built in rituals are hard to ignore. The longer you act them out, the more they rule you.

Tyke sure has become lively. Right now he is chasing Gandhi through the apartment. Ever since his fur has gotten cut, he has turned into a new version of himself. Apparently he had been suffering under too much of it and I will have to take him in sooner the next time, even if the weather were too cold outside.

Gandhi's maneuver to end being chased, is to jump on the kitchen counter and eat her kibbles. Doubtlessly she needs the food to give her strength to deal with Tyke's shenanigans. The kibbles are a new brand and I got them because she was only eating the jelly off the meat that came in the pouches and starting to lose weight. I thought I had better entice her with something brand new and she does like these.  I do not give her anything else unless she has eaten enough kibbles.

Tyke has turned into an eating machine, which is kind of a problem since he is a bit overweight. He has an almost non-ending appetite that may have something to do with the good quality food that I give him. He was not enjoying the food that I had for him before, so I got him something completely different and he likes it a lot. The food comes in smaller portions in effort to help him lose weight, but he wants more of it because it tastes so good.

This morning I have to go to the ophthalmologist and have my eyes checked.  It is about time that I have that appointment. I wonder though if my eyes were not bothered by the fact that I had both the flu and a pneumonia and that I was on two courses of antibiotics. I am sure those things combined do something to your system.  Well, I suppose I will find out about the state of my eyes this morning. Considering my general good health, there will be absolutely nothing wrong and I will just need a stronger pair of glasses.
